Position Overview

Henry Ford Health is seeking a dedicated and skilled Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our Bariatric Surgery team at Henry Ford Health – Providence Southfield. This is a full-time, inpatient role focused on providing comprehensive care.

Henry Ford Health is seeking a dedicated and skilled Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our Bariatric Surgery team at Henry Ford Health - Providence Southfield. This is a full-time, inpatient role focused on providing comprehensive care.

While the primary duties are outside of the OR, there may be occasional OR time based on staffing needs to provide bedside first assisting of robotic bariatric cases. Preference will be given to candidates with acute care APP experience in addition to prior robotic bedside assisting.

Schedule – Full-Time. 40 Hours per week. 5–8-hour shifts.

Weekend requirement – No.

Call requirement – No.

OR Time – Possible OR time if there is a staffing need. Primary duties are outside of the OR with direct patient care.

GENERAL SUMMARY: The Surgical PA will work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. The Surgical PA will be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, education, consultation, and care coordination as a first-line provider to patients and their families. Provides inpatient and/or outpatient medical care. Takes patient history, performs physical examination, orders, and interprets tests, makes diagnoses, and institutes appropriate treatment programs. Works in collaboration with staff physicians, house officers, nurses, and other medical care team members to ensure that patient outcomes are achieved safely and efficiently. Specific procedures are individually credentialed as indicated by training and experience. First or second assist in surgical cases. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Bachelor's Degree or Completion of an AMA-approved Physician Assistant program. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES REQUIRED: Requires Michigan state licensure and continued certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). Current ACLS or BLS as required. Current ATLS/PALS provider status as required.

Qualifications

  • NP – Completion of a Nurse Practitioner training program accredited by the Commission on the Collegiate of Nursing Education (CCNE) or the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC)
  • PA – Completion of a Physician Assistant training program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA)
  • NP – Certification by a certification body recognized by the State of Michigan
  • PA – Certification by National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)

Licensure and Certification

  • Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of Michigan, or in process of applying (must have proof of application)
  • National certification as an NP or PA (e.g., ANCC, AANP, NCCPA)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification required by
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • DEA/CSL, required through credentialing.

DEA - NPs do not have controlled substance licenses, only PAs. When NPs apply, they will enter MI license number instead of controlled substance license since they won't have a CSL.

Experience

  • Required minimum 1-year acute care experience.
  • 1 year of APP experience in an inpatient hospital setting.
